Where do I begin?
The bullet list

Eight! It's cause for celebration!

As of today, the First Day of Spring, I'm celebrating eight years of blogging! I've written nearly 2,200 posts and read almost 19,000 comments during that time! I wish I could say that I replied to all those comments, but I know I did not. Every comment is important, of course (sometimes they literally provide fuel for the fire), and I hope that I've at least replied to all of the comments most in need of reply -- those in search of an answer, an opinion, even advice!

Also, as of last weekend I'm celebrating seven years quit! It's likely that I'd have quit smoking, anyway, at some point and for one reason or another, but it sure was more "fun" to do it with my fellow blogger/quitter Ann, her friend Claire and my sister Karen, and with the encouragement offered by bloggers, not the least of whom was Cara! We did good. I don't get those anniversary emails anymore, but 7 years x 365 days = 2,555 x 1 pack/day @ $5 ea. = $12,775.00 saved and 51,100 cigarettes not smoked -- and that's a rather conservative cost average.

It's been a fun ride!

In March 2008, I wrote about my 4-year blogiversary and posted mosaics representing four years of blogging People, Places, Things, and Knitting Things and asked, "Four more years???"

Welp, yeah.

I have made some of the most amazing friendships, had exciting adventures, did some travelling, received a shower or two of love and support as a result of blogging -- I'd never have experienced some of those things to such an extent had it not been for this near-daily ramble. Sometimes a slog, after the pros and cons are measured and considered, it is still very much worth it.

It wouldn't be a celebration without presents, would it? I invite you to join my party by leaving a comment to this post by midnight (CST) Friday to tell me what blogging has done for you, whether you're a writer or a reader.

A random winner will be drawn for a woolly hand-dyed prize. It's likely that the 19,000th comment will be made during that time, too, and I think that's probably a good enough reason for another!!

As always, thank you so very much for reading, and for your comments and emails.

Four more years?

Oh Vicki! It's hard to believe we've been doing this for 8 years! I forgot my bloggoversary on March 1st! gasp, how'd I do that? Your mosaics bring back so many memories. Eight years covers a large amount of ground, long miles of knitting, and traveling, plus many milestones.
Congratulations on 8 years quit!!
Love you and so glad we're both still here!

Congratulations! I very much enjoy reading your blog and reading bits & pieces about where you live (my mom is from the Fox Valley and my uncle lives in Appleton). Happy Blogiversary!! :)

Happy Blogoversary! I have been reading for many of those years. You feel like a friend I just haven't seen yet. Someday...That's what blogs do for me,they connect me to my "tribe" of knitters. I check my favorites every day and have another group I check in with once a week or so. And..I am revving up to start a blog of my own. I'll let you know. :)

Delurking to say well done on achieving such a milestone! I found you through Mason Dixon, and loved your writing style, so I went back and read all the archives. I feel as if I know you! Again, congrats, and best wishes.

Has it really been eight?
Wow, I've "known" you a long time!
Did you ever wonder how much of the cig money has since been spent on yarn? :)
Congrats on your blogiversary and the quit that stuck!
So, four more?

oh, 8 years go by so quickly! congrats!

blogging helps me keep track of my projects and see an arc of development both in my art and my photography. it's been always lovely to visit you and see what you're up to.

It's been 8 for me as well! Our blogging community has grown and changed so much! I'm so glad we have become friends through this world of blogging. I don't comment near enough, but I come by here every time you post and love seeing your family, photos, knitting and adventures. Love you!

(No prize for me, give it someone who isn't totally overwhelmed by everything she has already!)

Congratulation on both the 7th and the 8th anniversaries you are doing very good on both fronts :)

I attribute my development as a knitter to the blogging community and I met many wonderful friends through it.

Certainly - here to many more 4 years to blog and be creative in.

Oh gosh, what has blogging done for me? It has expanded my world so much! I've met friends, traveled, learned new skills, and so much more. I'm grateful for blogging and I'm grateful for YOU. Happy Anniversary!

Amy J

Yay for you! (and those of us that enjoy your blog!)

Congrats on ALL milestones!!

happy blogiversary! I've enjoyed watching your yarn adventures so much... Thank you for sharing them!

Debbie H

Congrats! Eight years is amazing. I'm also an ex-smoker. been 13 years for me. One of the best things I ever did. Have a great yarny day! Debbie H gussek on Ravelry

I was lead by Margene's blog to her then to your blog then to you! Happy Blog! Happy Quitting! Cheers!

Yes on the 4 more! Congratulations on both anniversaries! I'm mostly a "lurker", but I enjoy your blog.

WOW 8 years! I've only been knitting for 3 and your blog is one of my favs. Congrats! And 4 more years? Yes, please.

Julie White

Congratulations on both the blog longevity and smoking cessation. I have passed the six year anniversary of quitting and I'm so glad I did. I have recently begun knitting and your blog is one of the first to which I subscribed. So inspirational, thanks so much! I'm very grateful to have something to aspire to.

FANTASTIC! (the blog AND you not smoking!).

I'm a both-er. :) I love to get a peek into people's projects, hear about their lives, catch up in virtual reality. I've actually wound up with a bunch of great friends I've been lucky enough to meet IRL due to blogging!!

Congratulations on the blog anniversary and on giving up smoking! I enjoy reading your blog.

Julia in KW

Happy Blogiversary! I came to read knitting blogs about when you started to blog (I was home from work part-time as my teenage son was having some problems and needed some parental presence/guidance and I was lucky enough to be able to be there for him). Reading knitting blogs kept my mind sane, re-ignited my love of knitting, made me a better knitter, let me look in on people around the world who share some of my interests. And you are definitely one of them...thank you, thank you, thank you! (and yes, you have replied to me before!!!) so thank you again!

Cheryl S.

Congratulations on both anniversaries!
Blogging has definitely led me to many new friends.

I have enjoyed reading your blog for about 4 years. Love your photography, your knitting and the stories you share about your family. Congratulations on 8 years and please keep writing.

Robin F.

I love reading your blog. Not only do I enjoy learning about you and your friends and family but I love the knitting and color content. I've learned alot! Thank you for sharing. Congrats on your 8 yrs of blogging and even more on your years of QUIT! I Quit 31 years ago and never looked back!
I love my google reader- it lets me know when there are new postings so I don't miss anything (assuming I check in), hugs from OH

I love reading knitting blogs for the inspiration and the introduction to patterns, yarn, and books that I haven't seen. Also the problems encountered by others can help me avoid them and/or solve my issues with a project.

Also it's just nice to get to join a bit of other knitter's life for a bit.

Congrats on your 8th year anniversary.

Blogging (I'm only a reader) has exposed me to new people, new ideas, gorgeous pictures, and a sense of "why, yes, I can try that with my knitting and/or life; just look at everything Vicki has accomplished and shared!" Thank you very much for 8 years of sharing, and at least 8 more would be great!

Happy Blogiversary! And congratulations for keeping it up for 8 years! I am relatively new to your blog having found you by reading Carole's and Margene's in particular. I don't do a blog myself, but I LOVE reading them. I learn about knitting techniques, new patterns, many varieties of yarn, etc., and I love the glimpse into other aspects of their lives that bloggers give me. I feel like I'm making new friends. Thanks for blogging!

Happy blogiversary! I'm really glad I've found your blog and enjoy reading it so much.

I love both reading and writing a blog. I think they are great ways to journal and share. It's fun to look at people's pictures and be inspired by their stories and projects. And the same thing happens when you look back at your own blog.

Congrats on both anniversaries. I love reading your blog and am very happy to know you were able to cease the smoking. Looking forward to at least 4 more years of blogging.

Congratulations on 8 years of blogging, and extra congrats on the smokeless years. I gave up drinking 17 years ago this month, and while I don't "celebrate" formally, I celebrate inwardly, with reflection and gratitude. I have enjoyed reading for several years now. I am toying with bringing my blog back to life, but wonder if I knit fast enough. ;)

Congratulations, Vicki! Life is a wonderful ride . . . and I'm so glad to have a seat on your bus. :-) XOXOXO Here's to four more years . . . and then some!

(Did you convert your cig-savings into stash? Heh-heh!)

Go for eight more! Love reading your blog and sharing your life and knitting.

Happy Blogiversary!!! I've so much enjoyed coming to meet you, and yay on the continuing not to smoke! Wasn't that a wonderful choice?

And yeah, I'm for 4 more, 8 more, 12 more?

Mention a prize, and watch the comments soar! Congrats on eight years of blogging, Vicki. I haven't been reading for that long, but yours is definitely one of my favourites :)

Happy Blogiversary! 8 years is a long time to do anything consistently - at least in my world. I'm a new blog reader - have several now that I follow. I'm obsessed, though. I NEED a post ever day. Certain there is a mental issue there, but not willing to look that deep. Love reading your blog - I vote at least 4 more.

Annie Tarbox

Congratulations on the blogiversary! Most of my blogging happens in my head now instead of on my blog. I really need to get back to it. Sounds like a fantastic spring resolution.

Word Lily

Happy blogiversary! My 5-year blogiversary was last week. Blogging has done a lot for me, but I think the biggest thing is that it has helped me find (at least some of) my people.

I just started reading your blog and I'm a relatively new knitter so yes ... four more years .... pleeeeeeeeeeease. :)

Happy Blogiversary and quit anniversary.

I love the friendships I have made from blogging. It is amazing to have met people from all over the world just because I put my ramblings out there on the web. Happy blogiversary to you.

Happy blogiversary! Blogging...wonderful friends all around the world, countless ideas and so much joy and inspiration from so many talented people...like you! Here's to another 8!

Linda Piotrowski

Congratulations on your many years of blogging! What a commitment and what joy you give to so many of us. I am so happy for you that you were able to quit smoking. Not an easy thing to do, I understand. You are a brave and capable woman.

I've been reading your blog for over a year now. You helped me through double knee replacement surgery. I was so down and reading your blog helped me to get through some very rough patches. Thank you, thank you!

I so love your photographs and following along on all your adventures. I used to live in Wisconsin-first Menomonee Falls and then Wauwatosa. Our daughter went to school in Oshkosh and then Whitewater. I love vicariously visiting Wisconsin through your adventures.

I'm inspired by your knitting, your dyeing, now your attempts at weaving.

Best wishes. Here's to, I hope, many more years of your blogging and the joy you bring.

Happy anniveraries, and congratulations. And, most of all, thank you.

Congratulations! That's a lot of blogging! Blogging has helped me be a better photographer, to document my work, time, life. I get innumerable ideas and inspiration from other bloggers and my day would be less fun without them!

Congratulations on 8 years of blogging. I really enjoy your blog and hope you continue for at least 4 more years.

Love seeing all that you've done over these years. . . I followed your other blog first and then somehow found this one - perhaps as you worked on the parcheesi blanket. . .

Congratulations on all of it!

I really do enjoy your blog. I've tried my hand at blogging a few times, but it just never pans out for me, although I do count reading knitting blogs like your as one of my favorite pastimes.

Congratulations on 8 fine years! And a big thank you, as well!

I've only been reading your blog for just under a year but I really enjoy it and I'm looking forward to many more years.

Dawn in NL

Congratulations on your anniversaries. I have never smoked but know what you have gone through.
Your adventures with dyeing have been inspiring me this year, I do enjoy your blog.

All the best for the next 8 years!

I can't believe it's been eight years. But congrats and here's to eight more years.
